As a cabinet maker rather than an old tool dealer I recently purchased a 22 1/2" jointing plane from Classic Planes manufactured by Darryl Hutchinson at a cost of £1075 including postage. When the plane arrived in my hands it was a beautiful tool in every aspect and works as good as any plane I have ever used. The value for money of all the Classic Planes range is staggering, I just don't know how they are made for the money but I thoroughly recommend them to anyone.

All the planes are hand made in limited numbers (around only 35 per year) using the finest of materials. Brass sides with a steel sole and dovetailed both ways for maximum strength. The infill is Indian Rosewood and finished with French polish rather than just oil or wax as with some new planes on the market. The blades are 3/16" thick parallel blades hardened to 61-62 Rockwell and then precision ground for a mirror finish. The adjusters are engineered to the highest of standards. Planes are tested for flatness and squareness before despatch.

I thoroughly recommend this range of planes to any woodworker who desires a top quality plane. The prices are to me the best value of any new planes on the market, just compare them to Holtey prices for example the jointing plane alone being some £3000 cheaper than an equivalent Holtey example.
