FINE 19th century example of a Sargent USA No. 422 (number 7 size) jointing plane in very good original condition. Most of the original black japanning remains. Original mahogany handles with low front knob and good length original blade. Good clean metal with no issues at all. There is a small brass screw in the spur of the handle where it has been glued a long time ago. Apart from this small repair this is as good a Sargent 422 as I have seen for some time.

VERY RARE full length 1 3/4" wide Stanley type blade by Robert Sorby of Sheffield. As far as I was aware Robert Sorby didn't make a number 3 size plane or a compass plane so I don't know what this blade was for other than competition for Stanley and Record in the spare blade market. Slight discolouration but nothing serious.
