Here we have a RARE 19th century sash scribing gouge by James Howarth of Sheffield. The tool has its original gorgeous shaped octagonal beech handle which extends down one side of the blade leaving only 5/8" of the blade protruding. The handle has been beautifully made as can be seen in the photos and the blade is cast steel. These rare gouges were used during the manufacture of sash windows for scribing or coping the bars. They hardly ever come up for sale and this is a really nice one.
