VERY RARE if not UNIQUE early Norris of London PROTOYPE 22 1/2" long dovetailed steel jointing plane. This unique plane is from the late 19th century. What makes it unique is the shape of the sides which are the same as the later range of number 13 annealed iron panel planes which is what makes me believe this is an early prototype. It hasn't been used very much and as such remains in very good condition. Gunmetal lever cap with still sharp knurled screw. Beautiful rosewood infill is all original and in very good condition with no cracks, repairs or dings (the spur possibly slightly re-shaped but a long time ago). The plane retains its original backing iron and thick parallel iron by Thomas Ibbotson which produces a fine mouth. The original backing iron has an additional piece of metal added where the screw goes which exactly fits the width of the blade slot, the screw is the smaller style Norris one. I have never seen a jointing plane of this style by Norris before ever, some may say it is an over-sized number 13 plane but this is not true as the number 13 range was not dovetailed as this one is. Would grace any serious Norris planes collection as a UNIQUE ONE OFF.
